GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- The Mesa CountyCentral Library expansion project began last August with a hopeful completion date of late spring, and the project is right on target.

With hot summer days upon us, many are excited to seek refuge in the new location.

Bob Kretschman with Mesa County Libraries said crews are on schedule and it won't be long now.

"Set to open the grand reopening on June 20th,=. Leading up to that, 6 p.m. on May 31st we will close the temporary location on First street," said Kretschman.

Mother Teresa Johnson said she'll miss stopping by the temporary library with her nine-month-old during the transition but said it's worth the wait.

"It's kind of a bummer because I can't get any books or movies until then, but that just means it's one step closer to being open," said Johnson.

When the temporary location closes on May 31, library staff will box up more than 160,000 items.

Patrons will not be able to put books on hold or reserve them online from the Central Library starting May 23.
