Charity gives troops holiday cheer

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo (KKCO)-- While we go about our daily lives, thousands of American troops are putting themselves in harm's way for our freedom every day.

Now, a local nonprofit is making it easy for you to brighten the holiday season for service members overseas.

Operation Interdependence is putting together care packages for our troops. Each box will have personal notes from local residents, as well as every day items such as snacks, toiletries and games.

Throughout the year, the organization sends boxes overseas, but organizers say it's especially appreciated around the holidays.

"It's so difficult for them to be away from home. Some of them don't have family or friends to start with, so it's hard for them all the time, but especially around the holidays. And anybody who does have family, it's difficult for them to be away from home, and we try to ship even more and make them know more that we are supporting them around the holidays," said Karon Carley, National President/State Manager of Operation Interdependence.

For $30s, you can "adopt-a-box" to send overseas. The box will contain care packages for 50 soldiers.

Operation Interdependence is a registered 501(c)3, and all donations are tax deductible.
