The Grand Junction City Council renews the debate on whether to change the Colorado National Monument to a state park.
If the monument takes on the new title, council members say the change would increase tourism and boost the local economy.
Councilman Bennett Boeschenstein says a lot of tourists don't know what the national monument is, and he fears many people skip it for nearby parks.
However, opponents say the increased traffic could negatively affect Glade Park residents and ranches.
The resolution will be brought up again at Wednesday's public meeting.
