City council supports change from Monument to National Park

In a meeting Wednesday night, the Grand Junction City Council showed support for a name designation change for the Colorado National Monument.

Members said changing the title from "monument" to "national park" would give the area more recognition, which should drum up more tourism.

The park's size and access will remain the same.

The council urges the U.S. Congress make the monument a national park.
