City Council votes to back out of reverse parking spots

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.(KKCO)_ Downtown parking will look a little different come spring.

Grand Jucntion City Council has voted to reverse all 79 reverse angle parking spots near 7th and Main streets.

It comes after a list of complaints from residents who say they are frustrated by the parking.

Constructed in 2007, the spots were intended to make parking safe for kids, placing the trunk of the car away from traffic. But a city–wide survey found 71% of people didn't think it was such a great idea because it forced drivers to back–up into traffic.

"We don't want to discourage people from coming downtown just because they have parking that frustrates them so we are very appreciative of city council for considering our request and for approving it, " say DDA director Heidi Hoffmanham.

The parking will now be changed to conventional angle spots the construction will be added as a piece of the downtown up–lift project set to be completed in June.
