Clifton man accused of child prostitution solicitation

MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO) -- A 62-year-old Clifton man is arrested for soliciting child prostitution.

Jesus Marcia Gonzales-Orpinel was arrested Feb. 14 after a three-month long Mesa County Sheriff's investigation and search.

In Oct. 4, 2012, deputies responded to a report of possible sex assault on a child. According to an arrest warrant, the victim's mother said her 13-year-old daughter told her Gonzales had inappropriately touched her three to four times in the last month. Gonzales would watch the girl and her brother periodically when both their parents were working, the mother said.

After further inquiry, the sheriff's office investigator contacted another 13-year-old girl, who said Gonzales had come into her bedroom and molested her.

Finally, the investigator interviewed a 16-year-old girl about her experience with Gonzales. The victim said Gonzales had offered to pay her $20 to have sex with him, the affidavit says. When she refused, he stroked her side for a few minutes and left.

On Oct. 10, Gonzales agreed to an interview at the Mesa County Sheriff's Office. There, he denied ever sexually touching the first two girls.

In the third case, Gonzales admitted to saying "something stupid." When asked if he offered to pay for sex, he said, "yeah, it never happen again. I promise you," according to the affidavit. He said he was drunk that day, but he denied touching the victim.

Gonzales is being held at the Mesa County Jail on a $50,000 cash bond. Charges against him include soliciting child prostitution and attempted sexual assault.
