Clifton residents will ring in the New Year with a water bill bump. Officials from the Clifton Water District say the extra cash will go toward much needed maintenance and pipeline repair.

"Those facilities have served us fantastic for that period of time, however drinking water regulations are changing and they are changing quickly and customers are demanding more protection of their drinking water," said Clifton Water District Manager Dale Tooker.

The average customer will pay between five and seven dollars more each month.

The money will go toward new advanced water treatment and pipeline facilities, some of which were installed in the 1970's.

"And older technology water treatment plants using sand filtration can not deal with a major change in water quality."

The major filtration upgrade project is expected to cost between $15 and $18 million dollars.
