Cold nights bring more homeless to local shelters

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - With the frigid nights we've been having lately, finding a warm place to stay can be a challenge for the homeless.

Fortunately, the extra company is something Homeward Bound is prepared for.

Homeward Bound supplies shelter for over 100 people every night. They also provide overflow shelter at local churches.

Last year they supplied more than 36,000 bed nights of shelter and more than 100,000 meals.

Next month, they're reaching out for your help.

"I think any support that people can lend towards the shelter operation, it can only be a positive thing, and it's the right thing to do," said A.J. Johnson, executive director of Homeward Bound.

The 9th annual Journey Home Signature Fundraising Event will take place on Feb. 16.

The event will have food, a cash bar, live music, dancing and auctions.

Tickets are $35 and can be purchased at Homeward Bound or any Grand Junction City Market store.
