Colorado Community Dental raided by IRS

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – A local dentist office is closed down by the IRS.

Fifteen Denver IRS agents and two local agents raided Colorado Community Dental around 8 a.m. Wednesday.

According to IRS special agent Bryan Thiel, patients were in the office as agents took control of the location.

They asked the patients to leave, but no one else with appointments that day was notified that the office was closed.

The agents were seen loading their SUVs with black boxes from the office.

A residence in the community was also raided in connection with this incident, Thiel said.

"The criminal investigation division of the IRS, our job is to investigate tax fraud and related financial crimes," said Thiel, though he would not say why Colorado Community Dental was being investigated.

He said he could not get into details of this case, but he gave a general idea of how cases like this go.

"Typically, we'll have been looking into a business for several months, if not longer, and it just kind of depends on the investigation," Thiel explained.

He said once they raid a location, the subsequent investigation can take several months to a year.
