LAKEWOOD, Colo. Colorado employees who work at a Walmart store in Lakewood will reportedly join nationwide protests today.
However, according to Walmart spokesman Kory Lundberg very few - if any - protestors are actually Walmart employees. As another union-led/union-organized protest, Lundberg points to the Labor Day protests at which no Walmart employees participated in Colorado.
Lundberg also noted that the union offers gift cards or other monetary benefits to those that choose to join the protest.
About 1,500 protests have been planned by workers and activists at Walmart locations around the country on this Black Friday. The protests will reportedly focus on the low wages and limited benefits offered to Walmart employees.
Walmart is the largest employed in the U.S. putting some 1.4 million people to work, but the average hourly wage is $8.81.
Similar protests last year mobilized an estimated 30,000 employees and their supporters.
The employees are trying to raise their pay to $25,000 a year.
