Colorado politicians size up legislative victories

DENVER (AP) -- Colorado lawmakers finished their official business long before their deadline of midnight last night. But they're still at work -- sizing up accomplishments and failures from the legislative term.

Legislative leaders from both parties, and Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper, planned to talk to reporters Thursday about wins and losses from the session.

Expect Democrats to tout big wins on gun control, civil unions and immigration changes such as allowing immigrants to receive state driver's licenses and in-state tuition even if they're here illegally.

On the other side, Republicans are likely to blast the Democratic ideas and accuse the majority party of going too far to the left.

Both parties will be sizing up legislative defeats from the past few months and crafting new strategies to try again next year.
