Commissioners add group of businesses to tax credit program

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) Mesa County is giving certain businesses who are looking to move away an incentive to stay in the area.

County commissioners passed a resolution adding to a program approved in 2012 that gives businesses a rebate on personal business property tax, a yearly tax on machinery.

This program gives businesses a credit on the personal business property tax if they are investing in new machinery and, therefore, creating jobs.

New and existing businesses were already eligible to get this credit, but now, commissioners said the county wanted to stop businesses from considering moving away, so they decided to apply this program to such businesses in hopes that it will be an incentive to stay.
