GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) Orchard Mesa Middle School and Western Colorado Community Colorado were just two places that held events on Wednesday to reflect on the tragic day that took the lives of thousands.

Sally Benson was in the second tower on September 11th and said she still remembers the day like it was yesterday, "Right after i got out, that's when the second plane went into the tower i was in. The noise was so loud I couldn't hear anything. I heard people screaming and then all of a sudden I just heard the building collapsing. I was smack in the middle of that horrible day and I will never forget that day."

The Clifton Fire Department received a fire hydrant located in front of the towers and it is now on display in front of the station.

Locals worked together to organize events that showed the patriotism of residents in the Grand Valley.
