Opinions mixed on proposed large gun magazine ban
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- Congresswoman Diana DeGette proposed a new bill Thursday that would ban high-capacity magazines.
Some local residents said the bill wouldn't prevent mass shootings but it could spare lives. However, Second Amendment supporters say they fear this could be the start of a slippery slope leading to further limitations on their rights.
"The guy with the Denver theater shooting, I think passed up a few theaters that weren't gun-free zones, so he chose the gun-free zone. It's the obvious choice where he is going to be safe," said gun enthusiast John Genovese.
Genovese said he fears limiting gun use for law abiding citizens won't stop deranged criminals from hurting people.
But others say a new line needs to be drawn, restricting weapons that can cause mass destruction.
"The only time it does make a difference is when somebody is using such a gun for something as destructive as what happened at Sandy Hook," said hunter and Mesa County Democrat Karl Castleton.
DeGette co-authored the bill with New York Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy, whose husband was killed in a mass shooting.

by Szabla Location: Location on Jan 3, 2013 at 11:04 PMIt was more than a few theaters in the area he passed up for a "Gun Free Zone". Get rid of "gun free zones" and you will save lives. The magazine capacity is not the problem; they will just carry more guns and Magazines.
