Cowboys player charged after teammate dies in accident

IRVING, Texas (AP) -- Dallas Cowboys practice-squad linebacker Jerry Brown was killed in a one-car accident early Saturday and teammate Josh Brent was charged with intoxication manslaughter.

Brent and Brown were teammates at Illinois. Brent was arrested in February 2009 near the school's campus and four months later pleaded guilty to DUI. He was sentenced to 60 days in jail and two years of probation. Court records show he successfully completed his probation in July 2011.

The team said in a statement that Brent was not on the team flight to Cincinnati, where the Cowboys play the Bengals on Sunday.

Brent, a nose guard, has played in all 12 games this season. He made his first career start in the season opener and has 35 tackles and 1 1/2 sacks.
