Cows moving from CA to CO

MESA COUNTY, Colo. Thousands of cows from California are making Colorado their new home as California ranchers struggle with a drought.

The ranchers are selling cattle in order to have enough food to maintain smaller herds.

Cattle demand is high right now and supply is low across the U.S., so the extra cows for sale have helped Colorado ranchers beef up their own herds.

"It's helping the guys from California right now and it's helping our guys from here because they're being exposed to some inventory they wouldn't have had the chance to buy in a regular year," said Bill Martin, owner of Western Slope Cattlemen's Auction.

The Colorado ranchers do have to take extra California cows after receiving them because they're skinnier than usual from the lack of food supply.
