GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)—Three people are in the hospital after their vehicle crashes into a fence at a local preschool.

It happened at the intersection of Grand Avenue and 12th Street around 11:30 a.m.

According to Grand Junction Police Sgt. Dave Stassen, a driver in a blue-green car heading eastbound on Grand Avenue ran a red light at the intersection.

The car was hit by Chevy pickup and was knocked into a fence surrounding the We Kare-A-Lot Preschool playground.

Fifteen kids were playing outside at the time of the crash, but none were hit by the vehicle. However, one child was struck by flying debris. He got a bump on his head but was treated on the scene and released.

Three of the four people riding in the car were transported by ambulance to the hospital for unknown injuries.

Southbound 12th Street was closed for about 20 minutes while the accident was investigated.

Traffic was also slowed while a tow truck worked to clear the scene.

The driver was cited for failing to stop at a red light. Alcohol and drugs were not suspected contributing factors.
