D51 schools close for second time in 20 years

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. As inches of snow piled up, District 51 officials made the decision to have a snow day, but the schedule will resume as normal on Thursday.

Usually they would have a late start or early dismissal, but many factors went into making the decision to completely shut down the schools.

School buses would likely have late pick ups leaving kids waiting in the cold and high school students who are new drivers might not be comfortable with the road conditions putting them and other drivers in danger.

Officials have been monitoring the weather through CDOT, the National Weather Service and law enforcement and will continue to do so to determine if doors will open Thursday morning and chances are the bell will ring bright and early.
