CSP cracks down on drunk drivers on Halloween

By  |

COLORADO (KKCO) There were 24 alcohol-related fatalities, with 6 happening over the days surrounding Halloween last year.

To fight this, the Colorado Department of Transportation will partner with the State Patrol and law enforcement agencies across the state to crackdown on impaired drivers from now until Monday.

Last year, 570 drivers were arrested for DUI during the same enforcement period.

And this year, they're going to do extra patrols and be on high alert for drunk drivers. It's part of the "Heat is on Campaign" where police beef up patrols around national holidays.

Impaired drivers who are arrested for DUI could face jail time and stiff fines totaling more than $10,000.

Even first-time offenders can lose their driver's license and have an ignition interlock device on their vehicle for up to two years.
