GRAND JUNCTION,Colo. The end of summer can be a busy time for traveling.
To keep Coloradans even more safe, law enforcement agencies are stepping up their DUI enforcement campaigns.
From August 15th to September 2nd “The Heat is on” campaign will be cracking down on people driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
According to the Colorado Department of Transportation Spokesperson Emily Wilfong, many law enforcement agencies are putting a lot of their check points around work and construction zones.
"We have a lot of crews out in the evenings and overnight doing road fixes and maintenance and we just want to make sure that our crews are safe as they are protecting Coloradans and their roads," said Wilfong.
Last year during this same enforcement period more than 1,300 people were arrested for driving under the influence.
Wilfong said CDOT expects a lot of people out traveling the roads trying to get in one last concert or vacation before summer ends.
"Sometimes those events involve alcohol, and right now we wanted to remind people that if you drive under the influence alcohol, marijuana, or other drugs you will get arrested," said Wilfong.
The Grand Junction Police Department along with Colorado State Patrol will also be stepping up their DUI enforcement during this period.
