Dads who spent their Father's Day protecting us

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo Many dads spent Sunday, June 15, relaxing, or hanging out with their families, but it was a different story for the men of the Grand Junction Fire and Police Departments.

For them holidays are just another day on the job.

Dads at the fire department said that getting a surprise visit from their kids was even more special on a day like Father’s Day, but they know their job is important.

“Like to thank all the families for hanging in there with us and when we do respond we realize other families have these same situations and we respond to those emergencies," said Captain Corey Laverne from Station 3.

For dad and firefighter Jason Whitesides visiting with his two young daughters made his day even though he was at work.

"It's pretty important, it's pretty special, it's a very family oriented occupation my family is pretty close with the rest of these guys," said Whitesides.

Police officers like Jeff Grady were also on duty on Sunday and for him it was all about talking to his three sons.

"But it's kind of nice, I got three phone calls this morning from my boys and it definitely touches your heart that they're still remembering you when they’re in their twenties," said Grady.
