Day 3 of Government Shutdown

WASHINGTON (NBC News) It's day 3 of the government shutdown and here's what's happening today to try to get parts of the government open again.

The House of Representatives plans to vote on some bills aimed at re-opening small, popular government programs - including veterans' benefits and pay for members of the national guard and reserves.

But overall there's still no sign of any break in the stalemate.

Last night congressional leaders met face-to-face with President Obama at the White House, but both sides emerged with no deal.

As of last night Republicans were still demanding that President Obama accept a delay to his health care program.

Democrats said they were willing to hold wide-ranging negotiations on the budget but first want the GOP-led House to agree to end the shutdown.

House Speaker John Boehner is giving no indication he will do that.
