GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- Stay safe on the streets by deciding to drive without distraction.

Today, the Grand Junction City Council will declare November Decide to Drive Month, with the help of School District 51, St. Mary's Hospital and Rocky Mountain Orthopedics.

Decide to Drive is an initiative against distracted driving, aimed at keeping both drivers and pedestrians safe.

Nearly 2.3 million people were injured in motor vehicle crashes in 2008.

Of those millions, more than 500,000 were thanks to some kind of distracted driving, like texting, talking or something else.

Tonight, several high school students and local officials will step up on behalf of the initiative at the city council meeting.
