GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) Mesa View Elementary School was given the Dan B. Davidson award for excellence in inclusion.

For the last year and half the school has been educating students and teachers about the importance of including kids with special needs in their classes.

The school partnered with the Arc organization, which advocates for inclusion of people with disabilities. Through that partnership, Mesa View received funding that went to training classes for teachers to learn how to effectively integrate disabled students into general education classes.

Students have been very accepting of their new friends.

"Imagine if that was you would you want to be treated like trash? They're just like you and they're just like me," Chloe Lee, student.

Principal, Mary Biagini, said they have plans to make a better curriculum so disabled students can learn more from the general education classes.
