GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Disruption in the classrom has become a big enough problem for school officials to step in.
A group of over 20 educators and community advocacy representives make up the discipline committee.
Their first order of business is to create a definition of a "habitually disruptive student" to help teachers identify students that may need special attention.
"If there's a student who's really struggling with behaviors for some reason, who is chronically disrupting a class then that takes a teacher's attention away from teaching a lesson," says Jason Eidinger, co-chair of the Discipline Committee.
The committee hopes provide students with additional behavioral or academic services rather than taking them out of the classrom for disruptive behavior.
The panel will present an implementation plan to the District 51 School Board in June.
