Domestic violence incident occurs while driving

EAGLE, Colo. – A man was taken into custody by the Routt County Sheriff’s Office after throwing a woman out of a car. Deputies with the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office were informed about a domestic dispute on U.S. Highway 131 on Saturday, Mar. 2 at 10:04 a.m.

The Vail Public Safety Communications Center got a call from Dax Crowley, age 28, stating that he had a firearm in the vehicle with him. He mentioned that he unloaded the gun and had no intention of using it. Crowley said he wanted a deputy to meet him in his residence in Yampa, Colo. Eagle County Sheriff’s Office deputies were unable to contact him on U.S. Highway 131. This prompted them to request assistance from the Routt County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 10:53 a.m., the Routt County Sheriff’s Office made contact with Crowley in Yampa, Colo. He was then taken into custody without incident. His children were unharmed and were placed under the care of Routt County Sheriff’s Office until the mother could be reunited with them.

Crowley was transported and booked into the Eagle County Detention Facility on two counts of child abuse, a class 2 misdemeanor, reckless endangerment, a class 3 misdemeanor, 3rd degree assault, a class 1 misdemeanor and domestic violence.

If you have any information about the suspect, please call Eagle County Sheriff’s Office at 970-328-8500 or call Eagle County Crime Stoppers at 970-328-7007.
