Donating Life in Grand Junction

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. On the Western Slope alone, there are more than 200 people waiting for a life-saving organ transplant.

To help raise awareness, on Wednesday night, Grand Junction Mayor Sam Susuras proclaimed April as "Donate Life Grand Junction Month."

The proclamation provides an outlet for organizations and individuals to learn about the benefits of organ, eye and tissue donation.

"It's very important that we educate citizens on the facts behind donation and transplantation," says Donor Alliance spokesperson, Andrea Smith. "We work very hard to do that and to inspire residents of this area to register to become organ, eye and tissue donors."

On hand with Smith to accept the proclamation was Debi Carson Youngerman, a Grand Junction resident celebrating her 25th year of life after receiving a life-saving kidney transplant.
