GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Donating blood is often compared to giving the gift of life, and on Tuesday, 200 people were honored for giving a lot of gifts.
The honorees gave one gallon or more of their own blood, and over the whole 2012 year, the blood center received donations from over 850 people.
One donor went above and beyond, though. Lonnie Shenold donated 34 gallons to earn the top spot, and 29 donors hit the 14-time maximum commitment.
In addition to honoring donors, the event also highlighted where some of the blood has gone, including 2 1/2-year-old Keera Metzker. Keera's life was saved by donated blood, and she is now happy and healthy.
