GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – A student downs a tree when he swerves to avoid an accident.
Tommy Martin was driving his white Ford Explorer west on I-70b Friday on his way to astronomy class. As he was merging into a right turning lane, a vehicle to his left veered right, nearly crashing into the Explorer.
Martin made a hard right turn and crashed into a tree near Freeway Bowl.
"My family helped me buy this car when I needed a vehicle, and it was a really nice car: probably the nicest car I’ve ever owned. That's a little upsetting that it's pretty much totaled," said Martin.
The other vehicle was not damaged. The driver was cited for careless driving, according to Grand Junction Police.
No one was injured.
