GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- The man in jail for allegedly abusing a young boy is sharing his side of the story, only to KKCO 11 News.

Jessie Martinez was arrested in January and charged with two counts of felony child abuse and one count of misdemeanor child abuse. According to an arrest affidavit from Mesa County Sheriff's Office, Martinez caused then-four-year-old Elijah Wallace to have a broken arm, and after Elijah sustained a head injury, waited two days before seeking medical treatment.

Martinez was the boyfriend of Elijah's mother, who is also facing one count of felony child abuse and one count of false reporting to authorities.

Martinez, a father of six, said he has never caused any harm to his children or any child.

"I've never hurt any of my children to an extent to where it would need any kind of help or anything like that," Martinez said.

According to the arrest affidavit, Martinez admitted he caused Elijah's broken arm, admitted he may have wrestled too rough and may have caused some of Elijah's bruises. Today, he told KKCO 11 News that isn't true.

"I love my kids with everything I have," Martinez said. "I have nephews, nieces and I'm around a lot of kids, and everybody that knows me knows I would never hurt a child like that."

Martinez said his lawyer advised him not to go into any details about the case or why he's facing the charges he is.

"As much as I would love to go into details and explain, I can't," he said.

Martinez said he is saddened by the pain Elijah has endured, but maintains he's not the one who caused that pain.

"I am not going to have that charge on me because I did not do it," he said.

Jesse has never hurt a child and nerver would hurt a child. Is what upsets me is when the media puts information out there about my son as if he was guilty of doing such a horrable crime, but yet the little boys mother is in jail for the same charges as my son but the media in not saying anything about her being the one to abuse her son. why is the media one sided. I thought we lived in a country where a person is Innocent until proven Guilty. yeah wright. Well I love my son and I know him and it is not in him to do such a thing to any child. Love you son, your Mom.
