GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- When presented with the challenge of brainstorming and creating his Eagle Scout project, Central High School junior Greg Stoneburner took the challenge to heart, hoping to improve safety at his school.

By gathering donations from local businesses, he created 35 Crisis Buckets to be placed in different classrooms throughout the school. In each bucket contains various survival items including first aid supplies, personal hygiene items, food, water and other survival essentials. Even the bucket can be used as an emergency toilet if a class is in lockdown for a lengthy period of time.

"It's all very simple because in a crisis situation, somebody's freaking out and not able to read the fine print," Stoneburner said.

Stoneburner worked closely with Central High School's Crisis Team on the project, making sure the buckets would be affective and useful.

"By having it in the room, it removes one more care that you might have for those little possibilities that you still have to plan for," said Crisis Team facilitator and teacher Rick Peterson.

School administrators have decided to expand on Stoneburner's project by creating an additional 45 buckets to one is present in each area of the school where classes are held.

"We're following his plan, so we're not going to change anything and we'll just press on from his plan, so it's all his," Peterson said.

Even so, Stoneburner said none of it would have been possible without teamwork.

"I can come up with an idea and I can come up with a list of supplies but without the teachers here and the guys in my scout troop, nothing would've happened," Stoneburner said.
