MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO) One man is dead after a severe car accident on I-70 Tuesday morning.
Paul Guillory, 75, was driving eastbound on I-70 near milepost 35 Tuesday morning just after 8 a.m. when his 2013 Nissan Pathfinder struck the rear of a tractor-trailer combination, which was stopped in the right lane of travel. According to the Colorado State Patrol Guillory was pronounced dead on scene.
The driver of the semi-truck – 48-year-old Allan Theriault, of Aurora – was uninjured in the crash.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but neither alcohol nor speed is considered a contributing factor at this time. It does appear that Guillory was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. No charges have been filed at this time.
The preliminary investigation has suggested that multiple vehicles were stopped on I-70 because of a loose dog on the interstate.
Eastbound I70 was closed for approximately an hour and a half, and traffic was rerouted onto Horizon Drive. The right lane remained closed until about 1:30 p.m.
