GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – A kiss from an alpaca serves as a reward to elementary kids for raising money to help others.
Students at Rim Rock Elementary had “Heavenly Hat” day Wednesday to celebrate the money they've raised to buy hats for kids who've lost their hair from cancer.
As a reward for reaching their fundraising goal of $800, the students got to witness their principal kiss a real alpaca!
"I’m hoping that when they see if there are things in need, they can accomplish it. We have the biggest school here. We have 670 kids, so working all together to accomplish a goal is huge," said Sarah Jensen, a P.E. teacher.
This is the fifth year Rim Rock students have raised money for Heavenly Hats.
They started the tradition after a Fruitvale physical education teacher was diagnosed with cancer and have kept it going in her honor ever since.
