PALISADE,Colo. The famous Palisade Peach Festival draws thousands of visitors and residents to town every year, and one of the most popular events took place on Saturday.
The Peach recipe contest started early Saturday morning, where the theme of the event was the Palisade Peach.
Each recipe was put into one of four categories; Desert, Sweet and Savory, Home canned, and Pies, Tarts and Cobblers all featuring the famous peach.
Most of the entries were in the newest category Sweet and Savory, where bacon wrapped peaches, and peach burgers were just a few of the recipes on the list.
Starting at 11:00am Peach Fest goers could buy tickets to sample the different recipes. A portion of the proceeds from those tickets went to the Palisade 4-H Club.
The winners of the event were announced at noon, and there was a first, second, third and two honorable mentions chosen in each of the four categories.
This year’s winners are Julie Coleman for her Bronco Fan Peach Blueberry Pie in the Pies, Tarts and Cobbler category.
Sue Kiser and Peg Chandler took the win in the Dessert category with their Peach Ginger Torte. Sue Kiser also won first place in the Sweet and Savory category with her Palisade Peach Savory Summer Honey Salad.
In the Home-canned category Anna Fasken with her White Peach Jam. The overall Grand Prize winner of the contest was Peggy Chandler for the Dad’s Favorite Peach Maraschino Cherry Jam.
There will be a full list of all the original recipes entered into the contest on the palisade peach fest website, www.palisadepeachfest.com.
