GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - A former city council member, who resigned under controversial circumstances, announces her intention to make another run.

Bonnie Beckstein officially announced her candidacy today at the Republican luncheon.

In March of 2011 she resigned during a second term citing "significant changes'' in her personal life.

Shortly after her resignation, we learned the Mesa County Sheriff's Office investigated a discrepancy at the accounting firm she worked at.

No criminal charges were ever filed.

"It feels like it's a new beginning for me. A new opportunity to serve the community and hopefully bring some solid, positive, conservative experience back to the council," said Bonnie Beckstein.

Beckstein continued to get signatures at today's luncheon, but has enough already to be a candidate.

If she wins, she will take over for Laura Luke, who is finishing out the remainder of Beckstein's second term.
