DENVER (AP) -- A man convicted of killing four people at a Colorado pizza restaurant in 1993 will soon learn the date that state officials plan to execute him.

A hearing is scheduled Wednesday for a judge to designate a one-week window for executing 38-year-old Nathan Dunlap. The week must be between 91 and 126 days after the hearing.

The state prison system chief then sets the day of execution.

Dunlap was convicted in 1996 of killing four employees of a Chuck E. Cheese restaurant in the Denver suburb of Aurora.

In February, the U.S. Supreme Court rejected his last guaranteed appeal.

Dunlap would be the first person executed in Colorado since 1997. His case is drawing to a close amid high emotions and political tension surrounding gun violence.
