GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) In Mesa County there is an on-going need for foster families willing to open up their hearts and their home for displaced children.

Tuesday night, The Mesa County Department of Human Services held an open house for families wanting to know more about becoming a foster parent.

Program officials say at any given time they have up to 250 local kids in need of a foster home and they say it's important to keep the children in the community.

"The value of that is so that we can keep the children in the communities where they live in, where their support groups are, where their friends are, where their school teachers are," said Chad Kaneakua, the Placement Resource Manager for The Mesa County Department of Human Services.

The meeting went over the ins and outs of the program and current foster families shared their experiences.
