GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Friends and Family members of the victims of the Collbran Mudslide have had a rough couple of weeks, with their loved ones still not recovered.
On Sunday several friends got together with McAlister’s restaurant to raise money for the fund set up for the Nichols and Hawkins families through Grand Valley Bank.
From 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Sunday McAlister’s donated a portion of their profits to the funds, and family members came out as well to collect any addition donations resident’s wanted to give.
"Now that they've lost their father's and a son, and they know that there is community members out here who are here to support them, make sure that they are not forgotten," said Renae Phillips.
Renae Phillips coordinated with McAlister to put this fundraiser on, and says it’s comforting to know that community members are willing to come out and help the families who lost their loved ones so suddenly.
"We never think about losing a family member, we never think about the tragedies that can happen especially when someone was just doing their job," said Phillips.
