GRAND JUNCTION, Colo (KKCO) -- Sunday morning at approximately 1:00am the Colorado State Patrol was called to a one vehicle crash on Colorado 70B just east of 28 Road.

The on-scene investigation found a 34-year-old male driver of a 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier had been traveling westbound in the right lane of westbound Colorado 70B.

The male driver lost control of the vehicle in the right lane and the vehicle began to rotate clockwise. While the vehicle was rotating clockwise the driver fell out of the open driver side door onto Colorado 70B.

The vehicle continued rotating clockwise and traveled on top of the driver while now traveling into the right hand turn lane approaching 28 Road.

The vehicle continued to rotate while dragging the driver under the vehicle and traveled up and over a raised concrete curb and collided with a chain link fence.

The vehicle came to final rest facing south with the driver fatally wounded underneath the vehicle.

The crash remains under investigation at this time and it is believed alcohol and the driver not wearing a seat belt contributed to the cause of this crash.

The Mesa County Coroners Office took possession of the deceased male and will release the identity of the male driver after his family has been properly notified.

The Colorado State Patrol would like to remind everyone to please take a few seconds to buckle up every time you are in a motor vehicle and do not drink alcoholic beverages and drive a motor vehicle.
