Coroner identifies son shot to death

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- The Mesa County Coroner's Office has released the identity of the man shot to death early this morning.

A coroner release says 48-year-old Garth Byron Meier died from a gunshot wound to the chest and the manner of death was a homicide. According to the statement, the classification of homicide does not imply any culpability on a person.

Early Wednesday morning, Meier was found shot to death at 688 29 1/2 Road.

Grand Junction Police say Meier was in some sort of altercation with his father when the older man shot him. Meier died at the scene.

Three people were inside the home at the time of the shooting; they are believed to be a family. The suspected shooter and other person inside the home at the time were being detained for questioning by the police department.

No one has been arrested and authorities are not looking for any other suspects at this time.
