DURANGO, Colo. (AP) A fire burning ban is in effect throughout La Plata County.

A red-flag warning was issued Wednesday by the National Weather Service because of dry fuels, relative low humidity and high winds, with gusts ranging from 25 to 30 miles per hour.

Forecaster Joe Ramey says similar conditions are expected on Thursday.

According to the Durango Herald (http://tinyurl.com/l8qfbnk ) the warnings could continue until this weekend.

Ramey says the warnings are coming early this year because of concerns over a drop in snow levels.
