Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) – The 4th of July is nearly here and Mesa County is currently under a fire ban. That means no personal fireworks of any type are allowed while the county is under a fire ban.
Grand Junction Police, say it's legal to possess fireworks but not to set them off during a fire ban. If you ignore the ban and set off fireworks, police can issue you a ticket. Consequences become much greater if you actually cause a fire.
Neighbors worried about fireworks in their area should call 911 but remember it's a busy season for first responders.
Officials say if you just have to have the excitement of fireworks attend a public display rather than risking getting a ticket or causing a fire that could kill or injure someone.
