MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO) – This Halloween, avoid one of the scariest experiences of all: getting a DUI.
The Colorado State Patrol and Colorado Department of Transportation warn that the Halloween “Heat Is On.” Local law enforcement, including CSP and the Grand Junction Police Department, will be stepping up DUI patrols starting at 6 p.m. tonight, Oct. 26.
The heat will last until 3 a.m. on Nov. 1. Expect to see more DUI checkpoints, as well as increased saturation and regular patrols.
According to CSP, October is one of the deadliest months for alcohol-related crashes. Ten people were killed in 2011, 17 in 2010 and 26 in 2009.
Last year, authorities brought in 447 DUI arrests during the Halloween weekend crackdown.
If you get a DUI, you can face more than $10,000 in fines and other fees, as well as possible jail time and a revocation of your driver’s license.
