Montrose County, Colo. (KKCO) - The former Montrose District Attorney Myrl Serra was sentenced to one year in prison for his sexual assault charges.
According to court documents, Serra was facing up to 12 years in prison, but instead, he will head to the Colorado correctional facility for one year, then be on parole for one year.
Serra must then serve 60 days in the Montrose County jail, and must be on sexual-offender probation for four years.
According to witnesses, Serra was using his position of power as the DA to intimidate his coworkers. Police arrested Serra in September 2010. During a preliminary hearing earlier this year, one of the women testified that he cornered her inside his office in April 2010, grabbed her breast and forced her to touch his genitals.
Serra's defense says they are respectful of the judge's sentence, but the prosecution wishes it were harsher.
