GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – Calling all responsible drivers.
St. Mary’s Foster Grandparent Program is searching for volunteers to drive a van of foster grandparents to and from the classes in which they help out.
Foster grandparents are volunteers 55 and older who tutor and mentor special needs or at-risk youth in the school district, educational facilities or daycares. They travel to local schools to spend time with the students there.
The program transports those volunteers two times a day, during the early morning and midday. Organizers are looking for people who can drive on Monday, Wednesday or Thursday from 12:15 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Van drivers will get $100 for every 25 routes you drive.
Applicants must be over 21 and have a good, clean driving record. They must also be patient, kind and have an ability to relate to older people.
A familiarity with Grand Junction streets would be a bonus. Before you are chosen, you’ll have to go on a ride-along with another driver and must submit to a background check.
