GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - New research is showing just how long-lasting the effects of head trauma can be, which is why Community Hospital is partnering with District 51 to offer a free concussion seminar this weekend.
The event is open to parents, teachers, coaches and students interested in knowing more about concussions. It will be an interactive meeting featuring education, post-concussion management and a question and answer session.
Among the presenters, the mother of a Colorado high school athlete who died from multiple concussions. "There's still a lot of people who think about the old days, when you take a smelling salt and tough it up and get back out there, so she wants to help educate parents," says District 51 Athletic Coordinator Paul Cain.
The free seminar is Saturday, Feb. 18 from 10 - 11:30 a.m. in the CMU ballroom. It's open to anyone who wishes to attend.
