Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) - You may want to avoid fructose if one of your new years resolutions is to lose weight, as the sugar may be to blame for overeating.
In a recent study in the Journal of the American Medical Association, fructose appears to trigger changes in the brain that can lead to a feeling of not being full, thus those who eat it tend to eat more because they don't feel satisfied.
To solve the problem, nutritionists suggest eating less food that is processed.
Officials from Back to Health Wellness Center in Grand Junction say overeating is just one of many problems caused by fructose.
"Not only will it make you eat more, it also has been shown to lead to something called non-alcoholic fatty liver disease... It can lead to type two diabetes,” said Daniel Lonquist, a certified wellness practitioner.
Lonquist suggests cooking for yourself to avoid fructose, but you still need to read the labels on the food you are buying. Soda is also a big source of fructose.
