FRUITA, Colo. (KKCO) -- Power has been restored to more than 2,000 Fruita customers who spent more than an hour without power.
Residents were forced to deal with negative temperatures when an outage sweeps the area, including Family Health West, Fruita Monument High School and Fruita Middle School.
According to Xcel Energy spokesperson Fred Eggleston, two wires near FMHS sunk together and touched each other, causing the power to surge and blow out around 7:17 a.m.
Eggleston says all of the 2,086 customers affected should have power again, and the problem near FMHS was fixed at 8:33 a.m.
