GJ residents asked for support of shooting complex

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – Colorado Parks and Wildlife wants your opinion about a proposal to build a state-of-the-art shooting and educational complex in the Grand Valley.

Agency officials are encouraging everyone to take an online survey to provide useful information as the project progresses.

The shooting complex will be located three miles east of Palisade on property currently owned by Xcel and the Snowcap Coal Company.

So far, officials have heard from several residents who have expressed support for the range. They say the complex will be able to support large-scale national and international shooting competitions that will provide an economic boost to local communities.

"Colorado Parks and Wildlife is dedicated to bringing high-end shooting facilities to Western Colorado. We have had initial support, but one of the most important aspects of bringing this project to fruition is the public support," says Mike Porras with Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

Wildlife officials say shooting sports add $27.8 billion dollars to the U.S. economy and sportsmen contribute $2.9 billion every year for conservation.
