Gifted & talented students

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) District 51 provides students that have been identified as gifted and talented with extra services and programs to help challenge them.
For the first time on Wednesday night, the district held an informative meeting for all District 51 parents interested in the gifted and talented program or advanced student programming.

Many people attended the hour long meeting at Bookcliff Middle School and parents were glad to get the information.

"Whenever you have students that are identified as advanced or gifted and talented you find that they need to be engaged and challenged so it's kind of nice to see what's out there so they stay engrossed and don't check out of school," says Selestina Sandoval, mother of two District 51 students.

Each school holds a meeting specifically for that school in addition to Wednesday night’s meeting. The programs offer students leadership opportunities and other creative avenues.
